AUSTIN, TX- The Concordia University Texas men's soccer team fell to Schreiner University on Thursday afternoon. A late push wasn't enough as the Tornados lose 2-1 in American Southwest Conference (ASC) play. The loss drops Concordia to 3-9 and 2-5 in ASC play while Schreiner improves to 1-6-2 and 1-3-2.
The Mountaineers scored a goal in the 33rd minute of the game of a defensive turnover in the 18 yard box. They would take the 1-0 lead into halftime. Midway through the second half Schreiner would again find the net, this time on a 30 yard blast just inside the right post taking a 2-0 lead. In 83rd minute though, sophomore
Travis Westfall (Dickson, TX) found
Michael Pena (Houston, TX) wide open to pull the Tornados within one with six minutes to play. The offense pushed the ball up the field creating a few chances but could not tie the game.
Concordia outshot Schreiner 9-8 with four shots on goal. Goalie
Eric Davis (Austin, TX) recorded one save.
Concordia will be back in action on Saturday afternoon against Texas Lutheran University at the Town and Country Optimist Fields (Field #27). The game is set to start at 2:30pm during Concordia University Texas' Family Weekend.
