Austin, TX- Concordia University Texas athletes teamed up with the Leukemia and Lymphoma society for the second year in a row, to help support the “Light the Night” national campaign against blood cancers on October 18, 2008.
The Light the Night walk is a unique evening walk held to celebrate and commemorate lives touched by cancer. Participants carry illuminated red balloons while survivors and patients carry white balloons, signifying their courage in battling these dreaded diseases. Thousands come together in Austin every year to Walk and raise money for the Society's mission: to cure leukemia, lymphoma, Hodgkin's disease and myeloma, and improve the quality of life of patients and their families. The Society is supported entirely by public contributions.
Concordia baseball team helped to set up for the entire event which hosted close to 10,000 people. The Concordia men's basketball team helped to get the thousands of balloons ready for the walkers while the Concordia cheerleaders served as parking attendants and welcomed the guests.
“The Concordia athletes and cheerleaders were such a huge help!” –Senior Campaign Manager, Whitney Musitano “It is always wonderful working with such amazing young athletes. It has truly been a pleasure getting to know all of the Tornados over the last couple years.”
The mission of the annual walk is to inspire and bring hope to thousands of patients and their families. Concordia Texas Athletics has made this cause one of their key volunteer efforts throughout the year and looks to continue the efforts in the future.
