Scott Shepperd named Assistant Baseball Coach

AUSTIN, Texas—Concordia University Texas Athletic Director, Dan Huntley has announced the hiring of former Tornado baseball player, Scott Sheppard, as the new assistant baseball coach, The position was left vacant last month after the resignation of Jeff Meyer.

Shepperd returns to Concordia after having served as an assistant coach for the Anchorage Bucs (AK) during the summers of 2007 and 2008. He also served as Manager at Sam Houston State University during the 2008 season as a bullpen coach, assistant hitting coach and batting practice pitcher as well as helping organize the Annual Bearkat Golf Classic benefitting the baseball program.

During the 2007 season, Scott served as a volunteer assistant coach for Concordia serving as first base coach, catching instructor and bullpen coach.

“Scott Shepperd will be a great asset to our University, athletic department and our baseball program. He has a great baseball pedigree and has made a long-term commitment to baseball and coaching,” Dan Huntley, Concordia Athletics Director, said. “The relationship as a player and coach that Scott has with this program should help as we make this transition at mid-season.

“I take great pride in the fact that I graduated from Concordia and I am also very proud of the strong baseball traditions of this institution,” commented Shepperd, “It is Concordia's mission to Develop Christian Leaders and it will be a priority as a staff member to do the same. Baseball should be another avenue for student-athletes to accomplish the university's mission.”

Shepperd has also coached with the Austin Slam Baseball Club as head coach/recruiter of an upper level high school summer baseball team.

Shepperd is a Concordia University Texas graduate of 2007 with a Bachelor of Arts degree in Kinesiology and is currently pursuing a Master of Arts degree in Sports Management.
