KERRVILLE, Texas -- Four members of the Concordia University Texas men's golf team finished the first round of the Schreiner Fall Classic inside of the top 10, which pushed the Tornados to third place after shooting a school record of 290 as a team.
The Tornados broke the school record for lowest round by eight strokes, which they set in the first tournament this season.
Junior #Michael Goldwater# is currently in third place overall after firing a one-over 71 on the first 18 holes at the tournament. Goldwater's opening round tied the school record for the all-time lowest score in a round.
Freshmen #C.J. Caliendo#, #J.D. Heathcoat#, and #Justin Muraida# are part of a five-way tie for seventh place after each carded a three-over 73. Caliendo and Muraida each shot 35 on the back nine holes after opening with a 38.
Freshman #Eddie Diaz de Leon# rounded out the Tornados by shooting a seven-over 77. Diaz de Leon is currently tied for 21st place overall heading into the final day.
The Tornados trail the University of Texas-Tyler by four strokes and the Unviersity of Mary Hardin-Baylor by two strokes after the first day.
CTX will return to the course on Tuesday to finish up the tournament at the Scott Schreiner Golf Course.
