LAREDO, Texas -- #Kerrie Carter# scored a layup with four seconds remaining to give the Concordia University Texas women's basketball team a 64-62 win over NCAA Division II Texas A&M International University Sunday afternoon. Carter recorded her third double-double of the season after racking up 21 points and 16 rebounds.
CTX (4-3, 3-2 ASC), who trailed by as much as 11 points in the contest, did not take a lead in the second half until there was 9:47 left (47-46). The Tornados seized the momentum in the game after grabbing the one-point lead as #Courtney Moore# scored on a jumper.
The Dustdevils (1-8) briefly regained the lead with 7:14 remaining (50-49) as Latreshe Jones scored in the lane. However, Concordia came right back with consecutive layups from Carter and #Margaret Milling#. CTX would stretch their advantage to as much as five points (58-53) after Milling connected on another layup with 3:18 left.
TAMIU would fight back to tie the contest at 62-62 with 28 seconds left as Courtney Dixon capped off a 9-4 run for the Dustdevils. Following a timeout by the Tornados, Carter broke free under the basket and #Jennifer Herman# picked up the assist on the game-winning shot.
The Tornados secured the win as Milling stole the ball as time expired.
CTX, who shot 36.5-percent (23-of-63) in the game, forced 25 turnovers. Milling finished the contest with eight points and a career-best eight assists. #Ashley Coria# chipped in 10 points on three 3-pointers and one free throw for the Tornados.
The Tornados will have a 16-day break before hosting the Rudino's Pizza Holiday Classic at Concordia Fieldhouse Dec. 29-30.
