BOX SCORE
AUSTIN, Texas -- The Concordia University Texas women's basketball team sent its two seniors out in style with a big 83-46 win in the home finale on Thursday evening at Concordia Fieldhouse. #Kerrie Carter# and #Jackie Eddins# were both honored following Concordia's (8-14, 6-12 ASC) win over the Mountaineers (1-21, 1-17 ASC).
The seniors weren't the only class celebrating on Thursday. The freshmen class had a lot to do with the Tornados win. Freshman guard #Brianna Smith# pumped in a career-best 29 points. Smith was 10-of-20 from the field, which included a school-record six made three-pointers. #Margaret Milling# added 14 and set the Concordia single-game record with 10 steals. Overall, the freshman class accounted for 75% of the scoring on Thursday.
Carter netted 16 points and recorded six steals. Eddins was unable to play due to a season-ending injury suffered earlier this season.
"I'm proud of what our seniors have accomplished since I've been at Concordia," said head coach Steve Cochran. "It's unfortunate Jackie couldn't have been out there tonight, but the freshmen really stepped up so both of these seniors could enjoy a win in their final home game."
The Tornados cruised throughout the contest and celebrated their biggest win since the 71-35 shellacking of Sul Ross State on Feb. 21, 2009. The 46 points scored by Schreiner was Concordia's best defensive effort of the season. The Tornados forced 32 turnovers and limited the Mountaineers to 33% (13-of-39) shooting from the field.
Concordia will head out for a three-game road trip to wind down the 2009-10 schedule. CTX will travel to Texas Lutheran on Saturday for a 1 p.m. start.
