CLINTON, Miss. -- The Concordia University Texas baseball team lost its fourth straight game as Mississippi College completed a three-game sweep of the Tornados (4-6) by scoring on a wild pitch in the bottom of the ninth inning during the nightcap of a doubleheader on Saturday. The Choctaws (8-1) won both games of Saturday's doubleheader, 14-0 and 7-6.
Concordia knotted the nightcap 6-6 in the top of the ninth inning as #Pedro Maldonado# singled up the middle to score #Justin Beasley#. However, in the bottom half of the inning, Andy Smith led off the inning with a triple and later scored on a wild pitch by Maldonado.
The opening game belonged to the home team. Mississippi College posted two innings with five runs and two more with two runs en route to a 14-0 win. #Colin Butschek# (1-2) took the loss for CTX after allowing seven runs, only three of which were earned, in three and two-thirds innings. Craig Mackay pitched a one-hit shutout for the Choctaws to earn the win. #Kris Pearce# picked up the only Tornado hit against Mackay, which came in the first inning.
Pearce tallied two hits on the day to lead Concordia at the plate.
Concordia will return to action on Wed., March 3 against the University of Texas at Brownsville. The non-conference doubleheader is scheduled to begin at 3 p.m. at Dell Diamond in Round Rock.
