RICHARDSON, Texas -- Sophomore #Candace Velasquez# has been named the American Southwest Conference West Division Softball Hitter of the Week for her performance in last weekend's four-game sweep of Sul Ross State.
 
The Austin, Texas, native led the Tornados last week to a 4-0 record after sweeping Sul Ross State in Alpine.  Velasquez went 9-for-11 at the plate with three home runs, nine runs batted in and nine runs scored.  She also swatted two doubles and slugged at a 1.818 clip.  Her batting average (.818) was tops in the conference last week.

Velasquez hit two of her three home runs in one game.  She drew two walks on the weekend and posted an on base percentage of .786 against the Lady Lobos.

The Tornados will return to action on Friday against Texas Lutheran.
