AUSTIN, Texas -- Concordia University Texas head women's basketball coach Steven Cochran has announced his resignation after a two-year stint with the Tornados.

"I enjoyed my time coaching at Concordia," said Cochran.  "I feel that it is time for me to pursue other opportunities.  This program has several good years ahead and I'm looking forward to following their progress in the future."

The Tornados accumulated a 20-28 overall record in the two seasons with Cochran at the helm.  CTX players garnered 13 postseason conference honors under Cochran's tutelage, including Kassandra Bills being named ASC West Division Co-Player of the Year following the 2008-09 season.  This season, Margaret Milling was named ASC West Division Freshman of the Year.

Cochran earned the ASC West Division Co-Coach of the Year award following the 2008-09 season, in which the Tornados finished with an 11-12 overall record and 11-10 mark in the ASC West.

"We are proud of the accomplishments Steve had here while coaching the last two seasons and the young women he has recruited into our program," said CTX Athletic Director Dan Huntley.  "The future looks bright for our women's basketball team.  We certainly wish Steve success in the future."

The Tornados finished the 2009-10 season with a 9-16 overall record and 7-14 mark in the ASC West after suffering several season-ending injuries.  Milling and Brianna Smith were each named to the ASC West Freshman Team.  Milling was also selected to the ASC West Division Defensive Team.  Senior Kerrie Carter earned ASC West Second Team honors.

Concordia led the ASC in steals (12.9 per game) during the 2009-10 season.

Prior to coming to Concordia, Cochran won four women's basketball national championships as an assistant coach at Washington University in St. Louis, Missouri.  He was named the AFLAC National Assistant Coach of the Year following the 2002-03 season.

A national search will begin immediately to find Cochran's replacement.
