HORSESHOE BAY, Texas -- The Concordia University Texas men's golf team is currently in fifth place following 36 holes of golf at Ram Rock Golf Course on Horseshoe Bay Resort during the first two rounds of the American Southwest Conference Golf Championships.
The Tornados shot 618 on the day and are two strokes out of third place. Freshman #Eddie Diaz de Leon# is currently in fifth place after carding a six-over par 148. Senior #Michael Goldwater# is tied for sixth place after shooting a seven-over 149 in the first two rounds of play.

CONFERENCE RECAP -- Brandon Ellis and his University of Texas at Tyler teammates took a commanding first-day lead at the American Southwest Conference Golf Championships.
In Monday's two rounds of action at the Horseshoe Bay Resort's Ram Rock course, Ellis posted consecutive rounds of 3-under 68 to lead by seven shots over teammate Joey Rippel. UT Tyler's two-round total of 582 leads two-time defending champion University of Mary Hardin-Baylor's total of 601 by 19 shots.
Ellis, Rippel, Bobby Ennis, Jacob Walsh and Tynan Day combined for rounds of 289 and 293 during Monday's action at the conference tournament.
The Cru carded rounds of 299 and 302 and hold second place by 15 shots over Schreiner University (616).
Positions three, four, five and six in the team standings are separated by three shots. After Schreiner, Mississippi College is in fourth after a two-round total of 617. Concordia Texas stands at 618, and Texas Lutheran sits in sixth at 619.
University of Texas at Dallas (624), McMurry (625), and Hardin-Simmons (648) round out the championship field.
The conference championship tournament concludes Tuesday with 18 holes at Ram Rock.
