BOX SCORE

AUSTIN, Texas --
Senior forward #Brad Walker# scored 13 points and freshman wing #Reynaldo Noel# chipped in 12 points off the bench but it was not enough as Webber International University downed the Concordia University Texas men's basketball team in their season opener, 85-68, Sunday night at Concordia Fieldhouse.

Webber International's (3-1) senior forward Halston Schaffer recorded a double-double while leading all players with 22 points and 10 rebounds in the win.

The Warriors built an early lead in the contest, one they hold for the majority for the first half.  Concordia Texas (0-1) was able to claim a two-point advantage (30-28) with 6:13 remaining in the first half, but WIU went on a 9-0 run to reclaim a demanding lead.

The Tornados would cut the deficit to a manageable six points at halftime.

In the second frame, Concordia Texas would get as close as two points early in the half before the Warriors stretch the margin to 17 points with 8:29 remaining in the contest.  A late run spearheaded by senior guard #Brian Elarms# would see the Warriors' lead cut to nine points.  Elarms scored eight consecutive points to bring CTX back within single digits.  Webber International came right back as Schaffer answered with an uncontested layup and lead a 13-0 run, which gave the Warriors their biggest advantage of the night (19 points - 85-66).  A layup by freshman #Terence Wilbert# would put an end to a four-and-a-half-minute scoring drought for the Tornados and capped off the night's scoring.

WIU shot 57.1% from the field (36-of-63), but were 0-for-7 beyond the three-point line.  The Tornados forced 31 Warrior turnovers in the contest but shot only 34.2% from the floor (26-of-76).

Walker shot 5-of-10 from the field for CTX.  Noel led the Tornados in his collegiate debut by shooting 6-of-9 from the field in 19 minutes of action.  Sophomore guard #Kenny Williams# added seven points and four assists in the opener.

The Tornados will travel across town to play NCAA Division II foe St. Edward's University in non-conference action on Tuesday, Nov. 24 at 7:30 p.m.
