DALLAS, TX-
Joel McDonald set the record for three-pointers in a tournament game with 9 beyond the arc, although that wasn't enough to push the Tornados past Mississippi College, as Concordia fell 104-88 in the first game of the American Southwest Conference Tournament.
Concordia went into half time trailing the Choctaws, 58-39 after shooting 41 percent from the field while, Mississippi College shot 66 percent from the field including 7 of 13 from beyond the arc. McDonald went into halftime with 15 points.
Mid way through the first half Concordia held a six point although they struggled to hold one after the Choctaws went on a late run to take the lead. Late first half turnovers put the Choctaws back the game.
In the second half Concordia never could recover from the 19 point deficit that they went into halftime with.
McDonald finished the game leading the Tornados with, 29 points while shooting 9 of 14 from beyond the arc in his final game in a Tornado uniform. McDonald broke the ASC Tournament record for three pointers in a game previously held my Stacey Keyes from McMurry University set on Feb. 12, 2002.
Kenny Williams and
Quinton Black each added 12 points for the Tornados. Also, in double digits for the Tornados was
Brad Walker with 11 points and Brain Elarms with 10 points.
As a team, the Tornados shot 46 percent from the field in the loss. They were out-rebounded by Mississippi College 41-35 and forced 20 Choctaw turnovers.
Concordia qualified for the American Southwest Conference Tournament with a record of 10-15 overall and 9-12 in ASC action. This was the third trip to the ASC Tournament and the third season in a row that Concordia has qualified for the Tournament since joining the Conference in 1999 all under the helm of head coach
Stan Bonewitz.
