SEGUIN, TX- Concordia University Texas dropped their first American Southwest Conference game which was a battle of the arms, to Texas Lutheran, 3-2 Friday afternoon at Katt-Isbel Field.
Concordia falls to 9-7 overall and 0-1 in ASC action while, Texas Lutheran improves to 11-5 overall and 1-0 in the ASC.
A pair of doubles for Texas Lutheran in the seventh inning was too much for the Tornados as they took the 3-1 lead.
Senior,
Chad Thielepape led the Tornados going 3-for-4 on the day including a solo homerun in the eighth inning to put Concordia within one of the Bulldogs.
In the ninth inning with one out
Micah Runnels walked to get a runner on base although the Bulldogs closed the game out with a double play to give them the 3-2 victory.
Matt Coburn did all he could to help the Tornados, striking out 11 Bulldogs and did not walk a batter in his eight innings of action.
Travis Staggs picked up his third win of the season while allowing one earned run.
The ASC series will continue tomorrow with a double header that will begin at noon. TLU will host live stats and live audio of both games.
