Women's Basketball Drops Fifth Straight

AUSTIN, Texas --
The Concordia University Texas women's basketball team dropped its fifth straight game as McMurry University defeated the Tornados (7-14, 5-12 American Southwest Conference), 76-59, on Saturday afternoon at Concordia Fieldhouse.

Concordia trailed by only four (37-33) at halftime, but McMurry (13-8, 10-7 ASC) pulled away in the second half, outscoring the Tornados 39-26.

Senior forward #Kerrie Carter# led all scorers with 19 points.  Freshman guard #Brianna Smith# added 12 for the Tornados.

McMurry outrebounded Concordia 52-32.  Anna Berthel led McMurry on the boards with 10 rebounds to go along with 14 points for a double-double.  Rikeita Thomas was the high scorer for McMurry with 16 points.

McMurry began to pull away from Concordia in the final 12 minutes of the contest.  Leading by 11 (55-44), McMurry went on a 12-1 run, which pushed the lead to 22 (67-45).  Concordia could get only as close as 14 in the remaining seven minutes of action.

The Tornados wrap up their home slate next week as Schreiner University visits Concordia Fieldhouse on Thursday, Feb. 11 at 5:30 p.m.  Following the contest, Concordia will honor its basketball senior class.
