Tornados outlast Mississippi College in double overtime on Thursday, 103-98

AUSTIN, Texas – The Concordia University Texas men's basketball team outlasted Mississippi College in a 103-98 double-overtime thriller on Thursday night at Concordia Fieldhouse.

The Tornados (14-4, 11-4 ASC) sent the game into overtime after Jared Galvan knocked down a pair of free throws with 0.8 seconds remaining in regulation.

Concordia Texas jumped out to a 92-84 lead in the first overtime frame, but Jay Case scored eight consecutive points to help the Choctaws (7-10, 5-9 ASC) pull even and force another extra session.

The final overtime panel was tied at 98-98 before Jonathan Garza hit his first shot of the night, a 3-pointer with 43 seconds to play. The Tornados held Mississippi College scoreless the rest of the way, and Galvan capped the scoring with two more free throws in the final seconds.

Concordia set a program record for made free throws after knocking down 39-of-43 attempts. Dwayne Patterson also tied an American Southwest Conference mark for made free throws. The Long Beach, Calif., native, who scored 26 points and grabbed 12 rebounds to log his ninth double-double of the season, connected on 17-of-18 attempts from the charity stripe to tie the league record.

Josh Sanchez scored 17 of his 22 points in the first half, while Andre Potts (17) and Galvan (16) also reached double figures.

Lakin Ford paced the Choctaws, who shot 52.8 percent from the floor, with 26 points. Emmanuel Ezejiofo added 20 and Jared Case chipped in with 15.

The Tornados will resume play on Saturday, as they host Louisiana College at 3 p.m.
