AUSTIN, Texas – Three Mississippi College players scored in double figures, and the Lady Choctaws forced 27 turnovers en route to a 77-65 victory over the Concordia University Texas women's basketball team in American Southwest Conference (ASC) action on Thursday at Concordia Fieldhouse.
Mississippi College (8-9, 6-8 ASC) shot 49.1 percent (28-of-57) from the field and 89.5 percent (17-for-19) from the free-throw line.
Cara Beverin scored a game-high 14 points to pace the Lady Choctaws, while Jaianah Matthew (13) and Alexus Stirgus (10) also registered double digits.
Tyler Compton logged 11 points to lead the Tornados (8-10, 6-9 ASC).
Shelby Dixon also netted 10 points for CTX, which shot 41.8 percent (23-for-55) from the floor.
The Tornados (8-10, 6-9 ASC) held a 31-30 lead with 2:21 left in the first half. However, Mississippi College reeled off a 13-0 run, which stretched into the final frame, to take a 43-31 lead and never looked back.
Concordia Texas cut the deficit to 64-58 with 6:04 to go after
Margaret Milling hit a jumper. However, the Lady Choctaws used a quick 5-0 spurt to take another double-digit advantage.
Mississippi College increased its lead to as much as 14 before claiming the 12-point win.
The Tornados will return to action on Saturday, as they host Louisiana College at 1 p.m..
