AUSTIN, Texas - A wave of high expectations is washing over the Concordia Texas men's basketball program as they prepare to tip off the new season. Following a 13–13 (10–6 SCAC) campaign that saw them reach the SCAC quarterfinals in their first year in the league, the Tornados have been voted third in the Southern Collegiate Athletic Conference (SCAC) Preseason Coaches' Poll. With a powerhouse returning core and key players back from injury, Head Coach Stan Bonewitz's squad is poised to make a serious push for the conference title.

The Tornados bring back four primary returners, providing a blend of elite talent and experience. Leading the charge is All-SCAC First Team honoree Joey Ramirez, who was the engine of the offense last year, averaging 18.3points and 7.6 rebounds per game. He'll be joined by key backcourt contributors Cameron Thompson and Aaron San Miguel, both of whom will look to elevate their game and scoring punch.

In the post, Tariq Muhammad returns, adding depth and versatility to the lineup. Their return is complemented by the highly anticipated return of Ibrahima Diallo and Anariss Brandon, both of whom are ready to make a significant impact after missing last season due to injury. Their health and immediate contributions will be crucial as the team navigates the conference schedule.

Coach Bonewitz, in his 22nd season guiding the Tornados, is ready to lead a team he believes has the right mix of talent and motivation.

"Our goal remains the same: daily commitment to improvement and competing at a championship level," said Coach Bonewitz. "The experience we bring back is invaluable, especially with Joey leading the way. Adding Ibrahima and Anariss back into the fold is like getting two high-impact transfers. We have the pieces; now it's about putting it all together against a tough SCAC schedule."

Ramirez, an All-SCAC First Team selection from last season, echoed his coach's enthusiasm and spoke about the team's drive.

"There's a different energy this year, especially being picked third," said Ramirez. "It gives us something to chase. We know we have a target on our backs, but we also feel like we have unfinished business from last year. We've worked on playing tougher and smarter, and Coach Bonewitz has us hungry to compete every single night. We're ready to show what this team can do."

The Tornados begin their 2025–26 campaign on Friday, November 10th, hosting Dallas Christian College. With the league's coaches predicting a top-three finish, all eyes will be on CTX to see if they can translate potential into a banner season.
