AUSTIN, Texas -- Concordia University Texas men's soccer senior #Brian Friend# was named to the 2009 ESPN The Magazine Academic All-District 6 First Team as voted on by the College Sports Information Directors of America (CoSIDA).

The District 6 College Division consists of all NCAA Division II, Division III and NAIA college and universities in Arkansas, Louisiana, Mississippi, New Mexico, Oklahoma and Texas. To be nominated for the CoSIDA Academic All-America program, a student-athlete must be at least a sophomore with a 3.2 cumulative grade-point average and starter or significant reserve for his team.

The midfielder from Bannockburn, Ill., was one of 11 student-athletes to be selected to the District 6 team. Friend finished the 2009 season by scoring two goals, which was tied for the second highest total on the Tornados squad. Friend netted the game-winning goal at Southwestern Assemblies of God on Sept. 21, then scored CTX's lone goal in a 2-1 loss to LeTourneau on Oct. 15.

In three seasons at CTX, Friend has started 41 matches and appeared in 47 matches. He finished his career by scoring six goals, including four during the 2008 season. Friend tallied two assists, 14 points and 62 shots during his career at Concordia. Friend ranks among the top 10 in five career categories at Concordia.

In the classroom, Friend has a 4.0 GPA as a history and theology major.

The Tornados finished the 2009 season with a 3-12-2 overall record and 1-10-2 mark in the American Southwest Conference.
