Round Rock, Texas- The Concordia University Texas Tornados fell to the University of Mary Hardin-Baylor Crusaders in their last home games of the season. The Tornados (18-16, 10-10 ASC) were unable to hold off the Crusaders (17-15, 10-6 ASC), as they lost both games of the Wednesday night double header at Old Settlers Park.
In game one, Jodi Hierholzer drove in the first run of the game scoring Samantha Dominguez of a single to right field. The Tornados then added two more runs as Lyssa Yates and Hierholzer both scored on wild pitches to give the Tornados a 3-0 lead.
Unfortunately, the Tornados could not hold the lead and lost 5-3, when UMHB scored three runs in the top of the third and two runs in the top of the fifth.
Game two started off with an amazing play by the Tornado infield. With runners on first and third with no outs, a line drive was hit to Jessica Rattan at shortstop. With her quick reactions she threw the ball to double up the runner on first. First baseman Lauren Vansickle noticed that the runner on third was attempting to score. Vansickle then threw the runner out at home as Carri Goree applied the tag, resulting in a triple play.
In the bottom of the first, the Tornados jumped out to an early 2-0 lead as Goree hit an RBI double. The lead did not last long as UMHB scored six runs in the top of the second. The Tornados brought the game within four when both Rattan and Dominguez each had RBI singles. Unfortunately UMHB bats proved to be too much as they continued to add to their lead and defeated the Tornados 17-4 in five innings.
Next action will come this weekend against University of Dallas in Irving. The Tornados will finish the season on the road against Howard Payne University in Brownwood Friday and Saturday April 24 and 25th games starting at 2:00.
