SEGUIN, Texas -- Concordia University Texas freshman #Justin Muraida# carded a 144 in 36 holes at the John Bohmann Memorial Tournament to finish the first day tied for 13th place. As a team, the Tornados (298-305) are tied for ninth place after two rounds of play in their season-opening event with a 27-over 603.
Both of Muraida's (72-72) rounds were one-over the school record for a low round of golf. Muraida shot a 72 in each round of today's opening event.
"Justin played very solid in both rounds today," said Concordia Texas head golf coach
Greg Sigler. "He putted very well today and he was very composed in his first collegiate event."
Muraida picked up seven birdies and one eagle on the day to lead the Tornados.
As a team, the Tornados set a school record for a low round at the 7,058 yard par-72 course at the The Golf Club of Seguin, breaking the old record by four strokes.
"I am very proud of all our guys for the way we played," Sigler said. "We have room for improvement. Our guys left a lot of shots out on the course today and they know they can only build on today's first couple of rounds."
Junior #Michael Goldwater# (74-78) carded a seven-over 151 for 38th place after 26 holes.
"Michael is our only golfer with collegiate tournament experience," Sigler said. "I'm excited to watch him play and I know he can only improve from today's showing."
Sophomore #J.D. Heathcoat# (75-78) shot a nine-over 153 in his collegiate debut. Heathcoat is in 50th place overall after the first day of competition.

"Today has set us up for the rest of the season," Sigler said. "We are going to improve and I think we are going to be competitive in conference play this season. I'm excited to watch this season unfold."
