GEORGETOWN, Texas -- The Concordia Texas men's and women's cross country teams kicked off the 2009 season Tuesday evening at the Southwestern University Twilight Opener held at Berry Springs Park and Reserve.
Both the men's and women's teams placed second in the dual meet.
"I think both teams ran well, considering we have just done base mileage," said Concordia head cross country coach
Alex Aldaco. "Now we know where our fitness is at and we can begin the process to get it where it needs to be at the end of the season."
The women were led by sophomore #Joli Bula#, who finished fourth overall with a time of 22:21. The Tornado men were paced by sophomore #Warren Sanders# and his eighth place individual finish. Sanders completed the course in 17:43.
"It was nice to see our top returners from last year run strong," Aldaco said. "I know
Joli Bula and
Warren Sanders put the necessary work in over the summer to be successful this season and it is going to be exciting to watch them progress throughout the season."
Both teams will be back in competition this weekend as they participate in the Texas State University Invitational in San Marcos.
