BOX SCORE

AUSTIN, Texas --
A first-inning cycle propelled the Concordia University Texas baseball team to a 5-2 win over Schreiner on Saturday afternoon at Tornado Field.  CTX (15-19, 8-8 ASC) received a triple from #Justin Beasley#, a single from #Pedro Maldonado#, a two-run homer by #C.J. Riojas# and a double off the bat of #Justin Yeager# to complete the rare feat.

The four-man single-inning cycle was one of the many highlights on the day for the Tornados.  Concordia played its first true home game since relocating its campus following the 2008 season.  The Tornados had played 73 consecutive games away from their campus before breaking the streak on Saturday.  Though it was not the official opening of the new Tornado Field, the Tornados made it feel like home with the early fireworks.

Concordia scored three runs in the first inning to stake claim to a 3-0 lead.  Yeager would give the Tornados a 4-0 advantage in the fourth as he scored on a Beasley squeeze bunt.  Schreiner would cut the lead in half during the top half of the fifth inning following a sacrifice fly and RBI single.  However, the Tornados wouldn't let the Mountaineers spoil the Tornado Field debut by tacking on an insurance run in the bottom half of the fifth.  Freshman #Nick Kozole# sent Riojas plateward with an RBI single to extend CTX's lead to 5-2.

Senior right-hander #Ben Whiteley# took care of the rest for Concordia.  Whiteley allowed just one hit in the final four innings while pushing his record to 4-1 on the year.  He tossed a complete game, scattering seven hits and two runs, while striking out seven.

Riojas led the Tornados' 12-hit attack at the plate with a 2-for-3 performance to go along with two runs batted in.  Beasley, Yeager and Kozole all checked in with a pair of hits.

The Tornados and Mountaineers are scheduled to complete their three-game series with a doubleheader on Sunday, beginning at 11 a.m.  Both games, which have been moved up one hour from the previously scheduled start time, will be played at Tornado Field.
