Austin, Texas - The Concordia University Texas women's basketball team will be hosting its “Adopt A Tornado” event on Thursday, Jan. 20 as the Tornados host American Southwest Conference rival McMurry at the Concordia Field House. Game time is 5:30 p.m. Prior to the contest, the members of the program will be introduced and recognized with their “adopted” player in front of the crowd.
Designed to give families the chance to build relationships with members of the CTX family, individuals ranging from local elementary school students to CTX faculty "adopted" a member of the women's basketball team and gained an all-access pass by receiving a detailed bio, monthly newsletter, Concordia t-shirt and personal correspondence. Other luxuries have included free admission to home games, passes to pre- and post-game activities and social time with their Tornado.
“This will be a night where we are excited to have all of our supporters come out and for us to honor them,” said first-year head coach Rusty Rainbolt, who launched the program in early October. “They give a lot to our program and our young ladies invest a lot in them, so this will be a special night for everybody to see who is supporting our program and to recognize them. Hopefully it will give us the opportunity to get more people interested in joining.”
Concordia (8-6, ASC 7-4) is currently riding a five-game winning streak, its longest since registering six straight victories to open the 1994-95 season, and is in a tie for second place in the ASC West Division with Howard Payne. The Tornados are only half a game behind first-place Hardin Simmons, which will visit the Concordia Field House on Saturday, Jan. 22.
