Collin Janssen of the Concordia University Texas baseball team has been named the American Southwest Conference Hitter of the Week, as announced by the league office on Tuesday, Feb. 15. The junior is being honored by the ASC for the first time in his career.
A native of Bryan, Texas and transfer from Temple Junior College, Janssen went 9-for-18 from the plate with three doubles and seven RBI and put together a five-game hitting streak to start the season. He also drew three walks and scored seven runs. Janssen's best game of the young season came on Feb. 12 in the team's 10-6 win over Whitman in which he went 3-for-3 with a double to go along with three RBI and three runs scored. He also hurled four shutout innings and fanned two batters while helping the offense build up a 10-run lead.
Concordia (3-3) visits Mary Hardin-Baylor for a non-conference game on Saturday, Feb. 19 at 1 p.m.
