BOX SCORE

Austin, Texas –
Christen McLee scored a career-high 13 points and grabbed eight rebounds to lead the Concordia University Texas women's basketball team to a 52-41 come-from-behind victory over Schreiner on Saturday, Jan. 14 at the CTX Field House. The Tornados won their fourth straight game and ended the weekend alone in first place in the American Southwest Conference West Division standings.

Schreiner (5-10, ASC 3-8), which only had three players score throughout the contest, got off to a hot start by scoring 10 of the game's first 12 points. Bailey Harris netted eight straight to break an early 2-2  tie. The Tornados stormed back and tied the score at 14 with 7:32 to play on a Valencia McKinney jumper. Later on, the hosts grabbed their first lead on a McLee layup. But a pair of 3-point field goals by Karisa Cantu would lift the Mountaineers to a 24-22 lead at the recess.

Concordia came out firing in the second half and did not allow Schreiner to convert a field goal until the 13:29 mark. A fastbreak layup by McKinney put the Tornados up by double figures for the first time, 45-34, and Margaret Milling followed with two free throws to give the squad its largest lead of the contest. The Mountaineers came within nine on a three-point play by Olivia Swarner before time ran out on them. Alex O'Neal and Madi Hess each hit two free throws in the final minute to seal the outcome.

McLee set a career high for points for the second time in the last three games to lead the way for Concordia. She finished with three assists, two steals and one blocked shot to go along with her 13 points and eight boards. Shamika Singleton also netted double figures, scoring 10 while adding seven rebounds, three steals and two blocks. The Tornados shot a season-high 93.8 percent as a team from the free throw line.

Schreiner was paced by Swarner and Harris. Swarner posted a double-double with 18 points and 12 boards, while Harris contributed 14 points. Cantu registered nine points, six rebounds and four assists.

Concordia (12-2, ASC 10-1) will look to remain in first place when it makes its annual trip to Abilene next week. The Tornados will first face McMurry on Thursday, Jan. 19 at 5:30 p.m.
