Seguin, Texas – Concordia University Texas' Colton Gommert has been named to the Capital One District VIII Academic All-America Baseball Team, as announced on Thursday, May 3 by CoSIDA (College Sports Information Directors of America). The senior shortstop, who helped the Tornados win their second straight American Southwest Conference championship over the weekend, was chosen to the all-district first team and is now eligible for academic all-america laurels.

Gommert, a kinesiology major with a 3.55 cumulative grade point average, is the second CTX baseball player to be recognized by the organization after Colin Butschek earned the honor last season. The Temple Junior College transfer has been the team's starting shortstop the last two years and has led the Tornados to a pair of ASC titles, garnering all-tournament team laurels both times for his role in the squad's postseason success. Heading into the NCAA Tournament, Gommert has a .299 batting average and 36 RBI over 45 appearances and 44 starts. He is tied for first on the team in RBI and ranks second in doubles with 10.

Concordia has placed 10 student-athletes on the all-district academic teams, which are chosen by CoSIDA members. Five of those selections – Emma Clifford (volleyball) Olivia Jablinski (women's soccer), Kevyn Jackson (volleyball),  Amanda Tarpley (women's soccer) and Gommert – have come during the 2011-12 academic year.
