NEWPORT NEWS, Va. – Concordia University Texas senior Megan Wagenaar broke the school record and became the first runner in program history to qualify for the NCAA Championships on Saturday with an 11th-place finish at the NCAA Division III South/Southeast Regional.
Wagenaar, who earned all-region honors, circled the 6,000-meter loop in 22:54.80, nearly 15 seconds than the previous program standard. She helped the Tornados to finish 20th in the team standings.
Senior Caitlin Rowlette finished 59th with a time of 24:20.19 to conclude her cross country career.
Meanwhile, Bonnie Warrick (26:37.79), Haley Van Klompenburg (26:47.34) and Kayla Brown (27:16.62) rounded out the scorers for Concordia Texas.
Trinity ran away with the team title, scoring 36 points, 40 less than runner-up Emory, while the Tigers' Maddie Murphy also captured the individual championship with a time of 21:33.89.
Wagenaar will move on to the NCAA Championships on Saturday, Nov. 23, which will take place at the L.S. Ayres Complex in Hanover, Ind.
