RICHARDSON, Texas – The American Southwest Conference (ASC) announced Friday that Martha Baldwin has been named the league's Athletic Trainer of the Year. Baldwin received the honor in front of her peers at the conference's annual meeting.

"It's an honor to receive this award," Baldwin said. "To be recognized by your peers in your field of study is the highest compliment anyone can receive."

Baldwin began her duties as the head athletic trainer at Concordia University Texas in 2012, overseeing 13 intercollegiate teams. She was promoted to assistant athletic director for diversity and student-athlete services and designated senior woman administrator in February 2014, while maintaining her athletic training duties. A native of Munger, Michigan, Baldwin earned a bachelor's degree in athletic training from Eastern Michigan University and holds a master's degree from Texas Tech University Health Sciences Center.

"I'm proud of Martha being recognized for all her hard work by her peers in the conference," Concordia Texas Director of Athletics Stan Bonewitz said. "The coaches and student-athletes have recognized how hard she works and the professional manner in which Martha does her job. It is nice to see her recognized for her work with our student-athletes by those outside of our campus."

The Athletic Training Staff of the Year award is presented annually by the ASC following a vote by the circuit's athletic training staffs. Concordia Texas is a first-time recipient of the annual ASC award, which was presented for the 10th time in 2014.
