Concordia Texas Softball Stadium

Concordia Texas Softball Stadium

Concordia University Texas officially broke ground on its first-ever softball stadium on Wednesday, Nov. 12, 2014.

Construction of the softball stadium will be completed in multiple phases.

The first phase will include the field, grandstands, dugouts and additional parking. Future building plans include grandstand covers, and a 12,000-square-foot athletic facility that will include locker rooms, training facilities, offices and a weight room.

"Today, we are delivering on the promise to build a softball field," Concordia Texas CEO Dr. Donald Christian said during the groundbreaking ceremony. "As I told somebody today, this is the first of many groundbreakings over the next decade. We will not be able to do that without the support of this community and our friends. And so as we begin this process of building and growing, we do so because we know we are in the mission of developing Christian leaders, and I am proud to continue in the tradition of that vision and to see the next part of that vision become a reality."

The stadium, which has been in the design process for the past year, is slated for completion in the spring of 2015, and will allow the Tornados to host its opponents for the 2016 season.

"To see this today is exciting for me," CTX Director of Athletics Stan Bonewitz said. "It's a home for the current softball team, but more importantly, it's a home for the Athletics Department and the University."

Concordia would like to thank the donors who have helped make this project possible. The Tornados Athletics Department also extends its gratitude to the softball alumni and former coaches, who have laid the foundation for the program.
