Freshman Sydney Getfield of the women’s track & field team is the 36th Taco Bell Athlete of the Week for the 2011-12 academic year. She is earning the award for the second time this spring.
Getfield, who needed to drop time to put herself in a position to qualify for the NCAA Championships, placed seventh among 10 competitors at the Trinity Last Chance Meet in the 200-meter dash by recording a time of 25.27 seconds. The freshman ended the season with school records of 25.05 in the 200 as well as 48.53. 1:45.35 and 4:06.14 as a member of the 4x100-, 4x200- and 4x400-meter relay teams, respectively.
Getfield, a native of San Antonio and pre-med major, is the daughter of Patrina and Oral Getfield. She has two brothers, Michael and Sheldon.
