Senior Scott Hays of the baseball team is the 37th and final Taco Bell Athlete of the Week for the 2011-12 academic year. He is earning the award for the second time of his career.
Hays, who was the ace of the Tornados’ dominant pitching staff this season, was the winning pitcher in Concordia’s 6-3 victory over St. John’s at the NCAA McMinnville Regional on Wednesday, May at Linfield College in Oregon. He allowed six hits and three runs, including two earned, while striking out six and only issuing one walk over 7.1 innings of work. Opponents only batted .207 against him. Hays had a 5-1 career postseason record in two seasons with the Tornados, which included a 2-0 mark in NCAA Regional play.
Hays, a kinesiology major who hails from Round Rock, was also named to the D3Baseball.com All-West Region Third Team this past week. He is the son of Jan Foradory and Mark Hays and has two sisters, Kimberly Lynn Lavato and Kristyn Hays.
