Freshman Kila Hartom of the women’s soccer team is the seventh Taco Bell Athlete of the Week for the 2012-13 academic year. She is earning the award for the first time of her career.
Hartom made several key saves to help the Tornados go undefeated and end the weekend alone in third place in the American Southwest Conference standings. She guarded the net for the first 52:15 in a 5-0 win over Ozarks before turning away six shots, including several from point-blank range, to help preserve a 0-0 double-overtime tie against Texas-Dallas.
“Kila definitely helped us maintain our place towards the top of the standings by making several key saves for us, especially against Texas-Dallas,” said head coach Myranda Sanders. “She brings a great mix of composure and aggressiveness to her position that has been contagious.”
The women's soccer program is off to its best start ever in conference play with a 6-1-1 ledger against league foes. The Tornados have also outscored their opponents 21-5 in those matches.
Hartom, a native of Albuquerque who intends to major in behavioral science, is the daughter of Biesila and Kirk Hartom. She has one brother, Tyler.
