Freshman Maegan Leider of the women’s cross country team is the ninth Taco Bell Athlete of the Week for the 2012-13 academic year. She is earning the award for the second time of her career.
Leider broke the school record for fastest time on a 6,000-meter course by more than 17 seconds to lead Concordia to a third-place finish at the 2012 American Southwest Conference Championships on Saturday, Oct. 27 at Mississippi College. The freshman, who was competing at the distance for the first time at any level, hit the tape in 23:09.43 to surpass teammate Megan Wagenaar’s previous standard of 23:26.6. Leider was also named the ASC Freshman of the Year and made the All-ASC First Team by placing fourth individually and first among Tornado harriers.
“I am very proud of Meagan for her performance at the ASC Championships,” said head coach Alex Aldaco. “She ran a very smart race and continues to improve every time she competes. I attribute a lot of her success this year to her hard work and mental toughness. She just fits in perfectly with the program.”
Leider, a pre-nursing major from Lakewood, Colo., is the daughter of Margie Cupps and Beck Leider. She has two brothers, Kevin and AJ, and two sisters, Becka and Erin.
