Junior Dwayne Patterson of the men’s basketball team is the 19th Taco Bell Athlete of the Week for the 2012-13 academic year. He is earning the award for the third time of his career.
Dwayne Patterson led the Tornados to a perfect 3-0 week and helped the team extend its winning streak to a record-breaking eight straight games by averaging a double-double in wins over then-No. 5 Wisconsin-Stevens Point, Texas-Tyler and East Texas Baptist. He accounted for 21.3 points and 11.7 rebounds, which were both team highs, to go along with 2.7 steals per contest. Patterson started the week with a 21-point, 10-rebound effort in a 96-82 victory over nationally-ranked Wisconsin-Stevens point. He also had four blocks and two steals in the contest. Patterson then finished with 17 points, 12 rebounds and four steals in a 79-71 win over Texas-Tyler, which was among the teams receiving votes in the national poll, before contributing 26 points, 13 rebounds and two steals in an 87-82 triumph against East Texas Baptist.
Concordia is off to a 10-2 start overall and has an eight-game winning streak. Both marks are NCAA Division III program records.
A kinesiology major from Long Beach, Calif., Patterson is the son of Rhonda Lewis and Dwayne Patterson. He has three brothers, Devin, Chris and Brandon, and one sister, Ebony.
