Junior Dwayne Patterson of the men’s basketball team is the 20th Taco Bell Athlete of the Week for the 2012-13 academic year. He is earning the award for the fourth time of his career.
Patterson led Concordia to a 2-1 record this past week, which included convincing wins over Hardin-Simmons and Fisher College, and has posted six straight double-doubles. The junior averaged 23 points and 16 rebounds while shooting 52.4 percent from the floor. He started the week by racking up 25 points and 16 rebounds in a narrow 98-95 loss to Mary Hardin-Baylor before adding 20 points and 16 rebounds in a 116-83 rout of Hardin-Simmons. Patterson ended the week by finishing with 24 points and 16 rebounds to go along with four assists in an 88-64 win over Fisher College.
Concordia, which has won 10 of its last 11 games, has continued its best start ever as an NCAA Division III program and ended the weekend in second place in the ASC West Division standings.
A kinesiology major from Long Beach, Calif., Patterson is the son of Rhonda Lewis and Dwayne Patterson. He has three brothers, Devin, Chris and Brandon, and one sister, Ebony.
