Junior Josh Sanchez of the men’s basketball team is the 23rd Taco Bell Athlete of the Week for the 2012-13 academic year. He is earning the award for the first time of his career.
Despite averaging just 21 minutes of playing time, Sanchez had two productive outings against Mary Hardin-Baylor and Hardin-Simmons. He recorded 19 points against the Crusaders before accounting for 14 points, eight assists, six rebounds and three steals in 19 minutes of action in a 101-67 rout of the Cowboys. Sanchez also committed just one turnover against Hardin-Simmons.
Sanchez, a newcomer, has helped Concordia continue its best start in school history as a Division III program. The Tornados ended the week in second place in the American Southwest Conference West Division standings with a 16-5 overall record and an 11-4 mark in conference play. The junior point guard is averaging 13.4 points, 3.0 assists and 2.1 steals this season.
Sanchez is a native of Houston, Texas who is majoring in kinesiology. He has two brothers, Nicholas Harnamji and Joe Garza, and one daughter, Aliyah Ann Sanchez.
