Sophomore Domonique Liddell of the women’s basketball team is the 24th Taco Bell Athlete of the Week for the 2012-13 academic year. She is earning the award for the second time of her career.
Liddell, who averaged only 17.5 minutes of playing time over two Tornado wins against Texas Lutheran and Schreiner, most notably set the single-season shot blocking record during the program’s NCAA Division III and American Southwest Conference era which began in 1999. The sophomore, who has now turned away 30 shots this winter, started the week by recording her third double-double with 14 points and 11 rebounds in a 62-54 win against Texas Lutheran. She followed that performance up by recording eight points and six rebounds versus Schreiner. Liddell also shot a combined 80 percent from the floor in the two victories and leads the league in the category.
Concordia is now 15-8 overall, including 12-5 in ASC play, and has qualified for the league tournament in back-to-back seasons for the first time in school history. The Tornados can lock up the second seed out of the ASC West Division by winning at least one of their two games against either Sul Ross State or Howard Payne this week.
Liddell is a communication major from Houston, Texas. She has two sisters, Miracle and Chloe.
