Senior Kat Moreno of the softball team is the 25th Taco Bell Athlete of the Week for the 2012-13 academic year. She is earning the award for the first time of her career.
Moreno began the 2013 season with a perfect 2-0 ledger by hurling two shutouts in a pair of 1-0 Concordia victories against Trinity on Feb. 15 and George Fox on Feb. 17. In the team’s 1-0 win over Trinity, she yielded four hits while recording one strikeout and not issuing a walk. She followed up that performance by registering seven strikeouts and allowing only four hits in a 1-0 victory against George Fox. Moreno, who has thrown three straight shutouts and has gone 20 consecutive innings without surrendering a run dating back to last season, only allowed opponents to bat .160 against her in the two games. The senior did not throw a wild pitch or allow a hit for extra bases in her two appearances and now has 10 career shutouts, which is an all-time school record.
Moreno, a business major from Cypress, Texas, is the daughter of Cecilia and Mario Moreno. She has one sister, Christina.
