Concordia University Texas men's basketball junior Josh Sanchez has been named the Taco Bell Athlete of the Week, it was announced on Tuesday.
Sanchez averaged 26.3 points, 3.7 assists, 2 steals and 1.3 rebounds while leading the Tornados to a 2-1 record last week. The 6-foot, 200-pound guard shot 46.7 percent (21-of-45) from the floor, including 43.3 percent (13-of-30) from beyond the arc. The Houston product also shot 82.8 percent (24-for-29) from the free-throw line, and he set the program's single-game record after knocking down 16 of his 17 attempts from the charity stripe against Texas-Tyler last Saturday.
Sanchez started his week with 23 points and five assists against Mary Hardin-Baylor last Tuesday. He then followed that performance up with 20 points, including four 3-pointers, versus Ozarks two days later. Sanchez finished up his week with 36 points, 18 of which were from downtown, while leading CTX over the century mark against UT Tyler on Saturday.
