Sophomore Darien Harris averaged 12.5 points and 8.5 rebounds, both team highs, in just 20.5 minutes of action to lead the Tornados to a pair of American Southwest Conference victories over Texas-Tyler, 69-65, and LeTourneau, 102-76, last week. Harris had eight points and 12 rebounds along with three steals in the narrow victory over the Patriots before netting 17 points on 8-for-11 shooting and pulling down five boards in the convincing win over the YellowJackets.
After averaging just 1.7 points and 2.3 rebounds as a freshman last season, Harris is already accounting for 12.2 points, 9.8 rebounds and 1.8 steals this year. All three marks are team bests.
Harris, who ranks second in the ASC in rebounding, is the son of Dexter and Elsie Harris. He has one brother, Derrick (15), and plans to major in kinesiology.
