Jessica Rattan, a returning All-ASC First Team performer, is Concordia's Taco Bell Athlete of the Week for the first time this year after coming through in the cleanup spot of the batting order to help the softball team begin its 2011 campaign with a perfect 4-0 ledger. The Tornados rallied from behind twice to post a 5-4 comeback win over Trinity in the opener before registering an 8-3 victory in the nightcap of a doubleheader on Saturday, Feb. 19 at Westwood High School.
Rattan, a senior shortstop, batted .600 with three hits on two doubles and one home run in the twinbill. She also finished with four RBI and scored four runs while registering a .667 on-base percentage to go along with a 1.600 slugging percentage. Rattan also went 1-for-2 with an RBI double in the Tornados' come-from-behind win in the opener before going 2-for-3 with a double, a home run and three RBI to lead Concordia to a five-run victory in the nightcap.
A business administration major, Rattan leads the CTX softball team in nine offensive categories, including batting average (.700), runs scored (8), hits (7), doubles (3), home runs (2), RBI (6), total bases (16), slugging percentage (1.600) and on-base percentage (.786). She is the only ASC player to homer multiple times so far this spring, while her marks for runs scored, on-base percentage, slugging percentage and total bases also rank first in the league. Rattan is the daughter of Pam and Ron Rattan and has one brother, Brandon.
