Pitcher Teylor Schiefelbein is the Taco Bell Athlete of the Week for the second time this spring after leading the softball program to a four-game series sweep of Sul Ross State on March 18-19 at Old Settler’s Park. The Tornados won by scores of 3-1, 4-0, 7-0 and 8-0 with the final game being called after five innings due to the eight-run rule.
Schiefelbein, who has thrown 16 consecutive scoreless innings and 14 straight frames without issuing a walk, registered a 2-0 record and also finished the week with a 0.00 ERA and five strikeouts in 12 innings of work. She yielded two hits and did not issue a walk or give up a run while holding opponents to an .054 batting average. Schiefelbein contributed offensively by batting .333 (3-for-9) for Concordia, which has only allowed two runs in its last six games.
A true freshman who has won her last six decisions, Schiefelbein started off the week by hurling a two-hit shutout in the nightcap of a 4-0 Tornado victory on Friday, March 18. She registered three strikeouts, allowed two hits and did not issue a walk while only having to face 22 batters in seven innings of work. Schiefelbein then threw five innings without allowing a hit before being relieved by Teshia Krause in the Tornados’ 7-0 win in the opener of a twinbill on Saturday, March 19. She recorded two strikeouts, did not issue a walk and only allowed one batter to reach base on an infield error committed by the shortstop.
Schiefelbein is a communications major and the daughter of Danene and Craig Schiefelbein. She has one sister, Nicole.
