Pitcher Teylor Schiefelbein is the Taco Bell Athlete of the Week for the second straight week and third time this spring after helping the softball program take three out of four games from Texas Lutheran on the road on March 25-26 in Seguin.
Schiefelbein, who has thrown 26 consecutive innings without surrendering an earned run and 24 straight frames without issuing a walk, registered a 2-0 record and also finished the week with a 0.00 earned run average and four strikeouts in 10 innings of work. She yielded 12 hits, including only one for extra bases on a double, and did not walk any opposing batters. Schiefelbein also contributed offensively by batting .375 (3-for-8) with four runs scored for Concordia, which has only allowed eight runs in its last 10 games.
A true freshman who has won her last eight decisions, Schiefelbein’s best performance on both sides of the ball came in the Tornados’ 13-0 win in the series finale. She hurled her second collegiate shutout by scattering seven hits, including just one for extra bases, and striking out three hitters while not issuing a walk for her fourth straight start. Offensively, the freshman went 2-for-4 with two runs scored.
Schiefelbein, who has a 6-0 record and an 0.78 ERA in league play, ranks tied for second in the American Southwest Conference and leads the West Division in victories (10). Concordia’s pitching staff, which consists of four underclassmen, ranks second overall in the ASC behind nationally-ranked Louisiana College and first in the West Division with a 1.85 team ERA.
A native of Houston, Schiefelbein is a communications major and the daughter of Danene and Craig Schiefelbein. She has one sister, Nicole.
