Junior Amanda Tarpley, a captain on the women’s soccer team, is the eighth Taco Bell Athlete of the Week for the 2011-12 academic year. She is earning the honor for the first time in her career.
Tarpley, the fourth women’s soccer player on a balanced and deep roster to earn the award, had two strong performances on the road in matches against Texas-Dallas and Ozarks. A defensive midfielder, Tarpley helped Concordia set single-season team records for overall wins (11) and conference victories (8) by controlling the midfield in a 5-0 win over Ozarks after limiting opportunities for Texas-Dallas attackers when the Tornados battled the Comets for second place in the standings.
“Amanda dominated the midfield and kept the Texas-Dallas offensive players at bay,” said head coach Corey Holton, whose squad is regionally ranked by the NCAA for the first time in program history and is on the verge of making its second straight postseason appearance. “She also controlled the game for us in a big win over Ozarks.”
Tarpley, a native of Round Rock, is a special education major and the daughter of Dena and Mark Tarpley.
