Senior Lashanda Luckey of the women's basketball team is the 16th Taco Bell Athlete of the Week for the 2011-12 academic year for her performances in the team's double-digit victories over Mississippi College and nationally-ranked Louisiana College. She is earning the honor for the first time in her career.
Luckey helped Concordia improve to 7-0 for the first time as an NCAA Division III and American Southwest Conference member and enter the Christmas break as the league's only undefeated team and one of only 19 unbeaten squads left in the nation. She averaged 16.0 points, 7.0 rebounds, 3.0 steals and 2.5 assists in the two games.
Luckey first accumulated nine points, eight boards and five steals in a 69-53 victory over Mississippi College. Two days later, the senior wing player registered a career-high 23 points by shooting 66.7 percent from the field, 80 percent from beyond the arc and 75 percent from the line in an 82-71 victory over 17-ranked Louisiana College. She also had six rebounds, three assists and one steal against the Wildcats.
“Lashanda has been amazing for us,” stated head coach Rusty Rainbolt, who has led the Tornados to nine consecutive victories dating back to last season. “She has taken her game to the next level and has been our go-to perimeter player.”
Luckey, a behavioral science major from Garland, is the daughter of Latoniadra and Jeffrey Luckey. She has two brothers, Jerome and Jamal.
