Sophomore Teylor Schiefelbein of the softball team is the 26th Taco Bell Athlete of the Week for the 2011-12 academic year for her role in two victories over nationally-ranked opponents. She is earning the honor for the fourth time in her career.
Schiefelbein pitched two complete games and won both of her starts over nationally-ranked opponents this week, including #2 Texas-Tyler which had a 24-game winning streak at the ASC First Pitch Tournament, while registering a 1.09 earned run average. In Concordia's 2-1 win over 23rd-ranked East Texas Baptist, Schiefelbein yielded five hits and one run, which was earned, while striking out three and issuing only walk. She also went 1-for-3 with a double and one run scored to assist the offense. One day later, Schiefelbein was the winning pitcher of #2 Texas-Tyler after giving up two runs, including one earned, while striking out three. She also contributed offensively by going 1-for-2 with two sacrifices.
Concordia improved to 4-0 this season against teams that qualified for the 2011 NCAA Tournament. In addition to East Texas Baptist and Texas-Tyler, the Tornados have also beaten Mississippi College twice on the road.
A native of Houston, Schiefelbein is a communication major and the daughter of Danene and Craig Schiefelbein. She has one sister, Nicole.
