Senior Colton Gommert of the baseball team is the 27th Taco Bell Athlete of the Week for the 2011-12 academic year for his role in two conference victories over Howard Payne on Sunday, March 11. He is earning the honor for the first time in his career.

Gommert batted .500 by going a combined 3-for-6 with a walk and a double in 8-2 and 6-5 victories over the Yellow Jackets. He also drove in six of the team’s 14 runs, which included a bases-clearing double in the nightcap to spark a rally. Gommert is third on the team in runs batted in with 17, which is also among the ten best marks in the American Southwest Conference.

Concordia improved to 16-4 overall and 2-0 in ASC West Division play this season with the wins. The team is ranked 18th in the nation by D3Baseball.com.

A native of Cameron, Gommert is a kinesiology major and the son of Debbie and Harvey Gommert. He has one brother, Stetson.
