Freshman Sydney Getfield of the women’s track & field team is the 29th Taco Bell Athlete of the Week for the 2011-12 academic year after accounting for two school records and several of the nation’s and American Southwest Conference’s best times while competing primarily against NCAA Division I athletes at the Bobby Lane Invitational hosted by Texas-Arlington over the weekend.
Getfield broke the school record in the 200-meter dash by running a blistering time of 25.63 seconds in the event. The mark ranks 13th nationally, including tops among freshmen, and first among ASC student-athletes. She also ran on the 4x400-meter relay teams that established a program standard with a time of 4:06.14, which was also an ASC best and among the top marks in the country this spring.
Getfield, a native of San Antonio and pre-med major, is the daughter of Patrina and Oral Getfield. She has two brothers, Michael and Sheldon.
