Freshman Matt Ruhe of the men’s track & field team is the 30th Taco Bell Athlete of the Week for the 2011-12 academic year. He is receiving the award for the first time of his career.
Ruhe was among the first group of CTX track & field athletes to qualify for the Texas Relays and broke the school record in the 100-meter dash at the prestigious event on Saturday morning. He ran a blistering time of 10.99 seconds. The freshman, who is also one of the top defenders on the men’s soccer team, also established a program record by running the second leg for the 4x100-meter relay team that placed second in 43 seconds flat at the Trinity Tiger Relays later in the day. In addition, Ruhe also competed in the 100 again and posted his second-best time of the season (11.06) at Trinity.
Ruhe, a native of Woodlands and a physical therapy major, is the son of Pat and John Ruhe. He has one brother, Greg.
