BROWNWOOD, Texas – Behind a dominant effort that saw only one lost match on the day, the Concordia Texas women's tennis team picked up an 8-1 win over Howard Payne Saturday at Nabers Tennis Center.
All six singles matches on the day resulted in straight set sweeps for CTX as they moved to 5-5, 1-1 in American Southwest Conference play.
The Tornados were able to grab two of the three doubles matches to start the day as
Genna Ellinwood and
Camille Kempf along with
Alexis Popovich and
Kaitlin Stevens grabbed huge 8-0 wins in their respective matches.
Kempf, Stevens and Ellinwood were just as dominant in singles play. Playing on lines three, four and five, respectively, none of the three players dropped a game in their respective matches en route to 6-0, 6-0 straight sets wins.
Elania Evans was also phenomenal in singles play, picking up a 6-0, 6-1 victory on line three. Evans, a freshman from Sugar Land, Texas, has now won four of her last five singles matches this season.
In the final two singles matches of the day, CTX got fantastic efforts down the stretch from both
Alexis Popovich and
Leyla Martinez on lines one and two as they both grabbed straight set wins 6-2, 7-5 and 6-2, 7-6.
